ABSTRACT: In 1986, the Inter ministerial Commission for Sea Resources (CIRM) and the Brazilian Navy (MB) began the project to establish the outer limits of the Brazilian continental shelf, beyond two hundred miles, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). In 1989, theBrazilian Continental Platform Survey Plan (LEPLAC) began. In 2023, after all the efforts made, since the first submission to the Continental Shelf Limits Commission (CLPC) in 2004, Brazil obtained the recognition of an area of 5.7 million km², called the Blue Amazon, which changes its political map. In this immense maritime area, full of riches, it is necessary to care for and protect Brazil's maritime heritage and promote the growth of the Blue Economy. In this sense, the objective of the article is to reflect on the need for investments to promote public policies aimed at the use of marine space, based on the National Policy for Sea Resources (PNRM) and the National Maritime Policy (PMN).
