AS CONSEQUÊNCIAS DE UM IRÃ NUCLEAR PARA A ESTABILIDADE DO ORIENTE MÉDIO: O DEBATE TEÓRICO NO MAINSTREAM DAS RELAÇÕES INTERNACIONAIS

Resumo

Nos últimos anos, acalorados debates precederam e acompanharam as negociações iniciadas em matéria nuclear entre a República Islâmica do Irã e o grupo 5 + 1. No âmbito específico do que se conhece como o mainstream racionalista da disciplina das relações internacionais, Kenneth Waltz e John Mearsheimer, referências do neorrealismo, e Joseph Nye, da vertente neoliberal, posicionaram-se a respeito das principais questões vinculadas à possibilidade de o Irã desenvolver um arsenal nuclear. Perguntavase, fulcralmente, sobre quais seriam as consequências, em última instância, da existência hipotética de outro Estado nuclear no Oriente Médio. O que Irã, Israel e outros Estados da região fariam em tal situação? Adviria estabilidade ou instabilidade para o Oriente Médio? Em tal sentido, o objetivo do presente artigo é apresentar e analisar os argumentos por trás das respostas que, dentro do mainstream

das relações internacionais, têm-se dado a respeito dessas questões.

 Abstract: In recent years, heated debates preceded and followed the negotiations initiated in the nuclear field between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Group 5 + 1. In the specific context of what is known as the rationalist mainstream of the discipline of international relations, Kenneth Waltz and John Mearsheimer, neorealism references, and Joseph Nye, of the neoliberal side, were positioned about the main issues related to the possibility that Iran develop a nuclear arsenal. They wondered, centrally, about what would be the consequences of the hypothetical existence of another nuclear state in the Middle East. What Iran, Israel and other states in the region would do in such situation? This would arise stability or instability in the Middle East? In this sense, the objective of this paper is to show and analyze the arguments behind the answers the mainstream authors of international relations has been given on these issues.
